The point of staying here is the light: sunset on day 7 and sunrise behind the Mittens on day 8, both without driving in the dark.
Options
The View Hotel
Inside the tribal park, next to the visitor center. Every room faces the Mittens and Merrick Butte; sunrise from the balcony. Navajo-owned. Also has cabins.
Goulding’s Lodge
A few minutes west, outside the park, around the old trading post where John Ford’s westerns were set up. Views of the buttes from a distance, a museum, and more room availability.
Both book out early for the popular months.
Notes
- Navajo Nation: daylight saving time applies here, unlike the rest of Arizona, and no alcohol.
- More in Monument Valley.
