Meow Wolf’s Las Vegas installation, inside the AREA15 entertainment complex a short drive west of the Strip. It starts as a bright, slightly-off grocery store full of absurd products. Then you notice that the freezer doors, a cooler, a hole behind the shelves lead somewhere — and the “store” turns out to be the front of a big maze of rooms, tunnels and strange worlds.
How to do it
- Wander freely, or follow the hidden storyline: there’s a story about the Dramcorp company and the town behind the store, told through documents, computer terminals and rooms you find along the way.
- Card readers let you pick up clues as you go (check if it’s still part of the ticket).
- Comfortable shoes; there are stairs, slides and tight spots.
- The shop at the start sells the fake products for real — good weird souvenirs.
When
Day 1 evening if the flight lands early enough, otherwise day 2 morning before driving to Route 66. Jet lag may help: it’s a good way to stay awake on the first evening.
Doing both Omega Mart and the megachurch on day 2 morning gets tight. If both stay on the list, consider a second night in Las Vegas.
Elsewhere at AREA15
Bars, other immersive rooms and art pieces in the complex itself — free to walk around, the attractions cost extra.
